I grew up in a street called Pear Tree Avenue, Upper Poppleton. I loved its tongue-twisty name and the stories it conjured. This Yorkshire village also inspired my proudest writing moment – when I won a Blue Peter Badge!
I’ve done lots of jobs, but many of them have involved telling stories of one kind or another. Studying History at university gave me a life-long interest in understanding the voices of ordinary people and how they impact the world. My work as a lawyer gave me a love of crafting tongue-twisty words for myself.
As Chair of the Akram Khan dance company, I was privileged to support wonderful storytelling through dance and theatre. I am passionate about sharing books with children from a variety of backgrounds through volunteering for Coram and Doorstep Library
I am now interested in helping challenged children find and make sense of their own stories through my work supporting mental health in schools with Place2Be
I am repped by the wonderful Philippa Milnes-Smith at The Soho Agency.
